Our little smoke house has been inspired by Fortune’s W.R., Smokehouse & Kipper Shop. Established in 1872 and situated at the end of Henrietta Street it is one of only a handful of traditional smokeries left in Britain.

With its decorative fish-scale felt roof and rendered plastered walls, our mid-1950’s little gem has been inspired by the wonderful array of colourful 1950’s pre-fab holiday chalets. Also known as bungalows, they sprung up at
Jaywick Sands on farmland sold off during the agricultural depression of the late 1920s.

Rushton Hall’s elaborately ornamented Triangular Lodge was built in the late
sixteenth century for Sir Thomas Tresham, who intended it to be a permanent
celebration of Roman Catholicism through symbolic architecture. The whole design is themed around the number three, symbolising the Holy Trinity.

It is not difficult to guess why this late eighteenth-century cottage was given its name; just one glance at the banner on the birthday party marquee is all
that’s needed! With its sturdy rubble and ashlar walls and practical slate roof, this charming building was originally the office to Wortley Top Forge !

With its decorative Flemish bond brickwork and gabled thatched roof of combed wheat, our charming country post office and store has been inspired by what is arguably the most distinctive building in the village of Moreton. The village is famous for its links with T E Lawrence (a.k.a. Lawrence of Arabia), who owned a cottage there.

This sixteenth-century former anor house in Lustleigh was home to Cecil Torr, the
historian and diarist of note. Cecil lovingly restored its straw thatch, roughcast walls and impressive two-storeyed, jettied porch during the early twentieth century.

With the illuminated shop windows adding a lovely warm tone, our
wonderful scene depicts The Shambles in a nostalgic setting. Crouch
down to view it at eye level and it is easy to feel as though you have
been shrunk to Lilliputian proportions to join the people busying
themselves with their shopping.

Celebrating Liverpool’s 2008
European City of Culture
status. Situated at Pier Head,
the Royal Liver Building is one
of Liverpool’s most famous
landmarks and was built as the
head office for the Royal Liver
Friendly Society. Along with
the Cunard Building and the
Port of Liverpool Building it is
one of the ‘three graces’ of the
city. Can you find a third Liver
Bird on this miniature?

Buttermere’s St James’ Church was built in 1841 with stone taken from
Sour Milk Ghyll and the slopes of Red Pike; the roof tiles are local
slate. Inside there’s a plaque dedicated to Wainwright, which is
placed at a window overlooking his favourite fell . Haystacks

This building serves Thirlmere Reservoir at
the foot of Helvellyn. With its round tower,
slit vents and battlemented parapets, this
straining well and valve house was purpose
built to supply Manchester with up to
fifty-five million gallons per day.

At the foot of Blencathra, Threlkeld’s Old
Mission Room was built in 1885 by the Keswick
& District Christian Workers Band using
Lakeland slate rubble for the walls and
green slate tiles.

From the roadside, Binsey Lodge appears to grow from the wall and all you can
see is the timber framing and large white chimneystack. Turn the corner
heading towards Bewaldeth and all is revealed ! Built in the nineteenth
century as part of the High Ireby Grange Estate, it enjoys spectacular
views of Skiddaw.

In 2003, this restored station, which once served the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, one of the most famous narrow gauge railway lines in Britain, opened as a visitor centre.
The locomotive, Yeo, featured on our scene has been inspired by the loco, unique to the line, which hauled the first and last train on the line.
