Shipping Schedule for the Holidays
Holiday shipping can be a bit stressful for those who don't plan ahead of time.
With that in mind here's the latest information I have from the UPS system on their schedule for the holidays.
They guarantee their delivery of regular ground packages mailed before Dec. 10 to arrive before Christmas.
They guarantee their 3 Day Select packages if mailed by Dec 19th arriving Dec 22
They guarantee their 2 Day Air packages if mailed by Dec. 20th arriving Dec 22
When they say guarantee they mean that if the package doesn't make it to the destination on time then they do not charge for the shipping. It takes a natural disaster for UPS to not make their schedule so if the snow storm of the century engulfs New England on Thursday Dec 21st packages headed into the area may well be delayed; otherwise you should expect their great timely service to get your package where it needs to be.
They will not be delivering on Sunday Dec 24th or Monday Dec 25th.
Saturday Dec 24 delivery is available but is very expensive and availble for 2 Day Air packages mailed Thursday Dec 21st of Next Day Air Packages mailed Dec. 22nd. both would arrive Sat. Dec. 24.
To give you an idea of just how costly it can get I will send an imaginary Christmas present to my family back in Massachusetts. It is a small box 12 inches square and weighs just 6 pounds.
Mailing it Friday Dec. 15th it will be delivered Dec. 22 and cost $10.45
Mailed Tuesday Dec. 19th by 3 Day Select delivered Dec 22 and cost $23.00
Mailed Weds. Dec. 20 2 Day Air it will be delivered Dec. 22nd and cost $34.00
Mailed Thurs. Dec. 21 Next Day Delivery end of the day Dec 22nd cost $58.00
Mailed Friday Dec 22 nd for next Day delivery on Saturday Dec. 23 and cost $78.00
So if that was your 48.00 Christmas for dear Aunt Flo on Cape Cod we wouldn't charge you if you mailed it on Dec 15th as items over 40.00 ship free by UPS ground but if you left it to the last minute we would be billing you 78.00 more for the shipping. My point being to try and get you to plan ahead and save us both time and money. Karen and I will be quite ready to wind things down by Dec. 22 and ready ourselves to truly celebrate the holidays. So help us and yourself out and start thinking about getting things done in a timely fashion..
You may have wondered why they only guarantee their ground service if mailed by Dec 10th and thats because with the millions of packages that will be in their normal ground delivery system from the 10 th to the 24 th of Dec. some will go astray. That gives them time to find the wayard package and redirect it for delivery by Christmas. Most packages take a maximum of 5 business days to go anywhere in the US. so you should be safe shipping by regular UPS ground up till Friday the 15th but to be truly safe use the Dec 10th date.
