The Greek physician, Hippocrates (c.460-377BC), the 'father of medicine', is portrayed on the lid, whilst around the base is a mosaic design with a caduceas, a winged staff entwined by serpents - the symbol of medicine. Inscribed inside is the golden rule for healer: 'First, do no harm'.
