Neuschwanstein Castle is a nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner. This beautiful ornament depicts the Castle as well as Ludwig on its sides.

Ludwig II or Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm, (25 August 1845 - 13 June 1886) was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death. He is sometimes called the Swan King (English) and der Märchenkönig, the Fairy Tale King (German). He succeeded to the throne aged 18 but largely ignored such state affairs in favor of extravagant artistic and architectural projects. He commissioned the construction of two lavish palaces and the Neuschwanstein Castle, and was a devoted patron of the composer Richard Wagner. Anyone who has ever visited Neuschwanstein knows how we are indeed indebted to this eccentric ruler as it is truly an almost fairyland creation that rises over the surrounding countryside.

The twin towers of the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady) have been Munich's major landmark since they were added in 1525. The church is the largest in Munich and one of largest Gothic buildings in southern Germany. Our ornament captures the spirit of the cathedral and is hand painted and nicely glittered.
