Eilean Donan is one of Scotland s most photographed castles. It commands a spectacular setting with the Cuillin mountains of Skye as a backdrop. It stands on a small island where Loch Alsh , Loch Duich, and Loch Long meet.

The first major building on this site was built on the remains of a Pictish fort in 1220 by King Alexander II, to guard against Viking invasion.
The castle has been linked over the centuries with the MacRae and MacKenzie Clans. It was destroyed in 1719. Two hundred years later it was faithfully and accurately restored to its former glory.

Dunvegan Castle has been the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years and it remains their home. Built on a Rock once surrounded entirely by salt water, it is unique in Scotland as the only house of such antiquity to have retained its family and its roof throughout the centuries, surviving the extremes of feast and famine, the intermittent periods of warring with neighbouring clans, and the immense changes of social, political and economic life through which the Western Highlands and Islands have passed.
