Welcome to Carol Scotts Viscar Pottery
The word Viscar comes from the medeival English , fursgor, meaning the land of gorse. There is mention of an Eleanor de Fursgor in this area of Cornwall England in the Doomsday Book.
Carol set up her pottery in the early 1990s and began throwing her pots using an earthenware clay. She hand throws or else builds from slab each piece and then decorates with slips ( liquid clays,coloroured with pigments and oxides) which are brushed,dipped, or trailed. The pieces are then raw glazed, which means the glaze is put on at this stage before any firing has taken place, and then fired just once in the kiln.
Growing up on the ocean these pieces had an immediate appeal for me. The colors are bright and their mood is uplifting.
